Okay guys, here is the flourless chocolate torte cake I said I was going to make!. The only things I changed from the recipe were that I used real butter and cream instead of substitutes, I threw raspberries on the top instead of black berries, pipped the extra ganache all around the sides (I think I had extra because I didn't put enough in the filling), and I put shaved chocolate on the top; because, again, I had extra.

For anyone aspiring to make this I will tell you now that this cake is a lot bigger than it looks in the photos on the site. It is actually a massive cake, so if you make it be sure you have a lot of people to feed it to.

It is also pretty expensive to make. Plan on spending around $50 for all the ingredients, though if you get margarine instead of real butter and if you can find a really good sale on chocolate, you might be able to push it down to 40USD, but it just depends.

Calorie wise, for those who care, the whole cake runs about 13,000, so a 100 gram slice (that's just a little over 3 oz, and it is actually half a slice) will cost you about 400 calories. But honestly, it is so rich and heavy that you probably won't want too much more than that.

I will tell you that I still had extra ganache and chocolate shavings left over after making this so I rolled the ganache with some almonds into balls and then rolled those in the shaved chocolate and they made some really tasty chocolates.

This is great. I'll just leave it right here.

Well, according to my friend list, most of you know about LiveJournal's crack down on gay content. If you don't, here's a link. I'm not really surprised, honestly, but it is kind of sad because I've been here at LJ for so long.

I don't really post much at my fandom journal anymore, but I'd say that most my works are available elsewhere on the interenet. I'm also working on getting them all posted to Ao3. I'll post links at another time, but right now I'm thinking that I'll probably just lock down my fandom journal for friend's only and make nothing public. Then if I do post fic there, it will stay there without being cross posted to a community. Or simply post the links to another site in said community.

Whatever I do, I'll do it within this week. Such a shame, but that's life.

On another note, for those of you who do not know, the U.S. $100 bill is getting a make over and being released today:

So don't be alarmed if you get handed one of these.

Okay good morning LJ land. Yesterday was a pretty good day for me, despite the fact that my lazy self was practically glued to the cough most of the day. I was feeling a bit under the weather Yesterday morning and the night before, but am now starting to feel a bit better. I wrote fic and I was able to talk to a bunch of people I hadn't been in contact with for a while. Over all, very good. Even so, the days are getting colder and this is not my favorite thing of the year.

In other news, scientists now report what we already knew (or at least, what I already knew): Chicken nuggets not just "meat" but blood vessels, nerve cells. If this is a shock to you, we need to have a talk. That article goes on to talk about how it is bad because they are marketed at children. Well, of /course/ they're marketed at children. Most unhealthy food is marketed toward children in some way or another.

I would also like to note that while the U.S. government still stays partially shut down, congressional leaders are at the capital arguing on whether or not their health care should be paid for during this time (because starting October first they government employees are supposed to sign up for their health care through the affordable care act [aka obamacare]). Uh.... guys.... don't you think you have more important things to discuss than yourselves?

I put some black beans to soak last night and will be making THIS recipe. I'll have a bunch of beans left because I soaked 2lbs ( about 900g ), so I will probably make something else as well, but I haven't decided what yet. I have everything on the ingredient list except.... oregano. Somehow, of all the days, I failed to notice I am almost out of oregano, so I guess that means it's time to walk down to the grocery store.

Here's the recipe in case you don't want to click the link:

Ingredients:
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, diced into 1/4-inch pieces
1 TBS + 1-1/2 cups vegetable broth
6 medium cloves garlic, chopped
4 cups or 2 15 oz cans black beans, drained
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 15 oz can diced tomatoes (do not drain)
2 TBS ground cumin
2 TBS red chili powder
2 TBS dried oregano
1 cup corn kernels, fresh or frozen
1/4 cup fresh chopped cilantro
salt and black pepper to taste

Directions:

Heat 1 TBS broth in a medium size soup pot. Healthy Sauté onion and bell pepper in broth over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until translucent. Add garlic, cumin, and red chili powder and continue to saute for another minute.
Add 1-1/2 cups broth and the rest of ingredients, except for the cilantro and corn. Simmer for another 20 minutes uncovered. Add corn and cook for another 2 minutes. Add chopped cilantro and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Okay well, the United States government has proved once again that it isn't so united by this completely avoidable government shutdown. But because a portion of Republicans want to lay on the floor, screaming and crying like a spoiled two-year old simply because they didn't get their way, nearly 800,000 people will not be able to go to work to earn money so they can provide for their families and spend money to keep the economy going.

Since LJ sucks somewhat.

September 30, 2013:

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) held a news conference on the Affordable Care Act and impending government shutdown Monday; addressing the Republican's continuing war on women.

Health benefits Republicans do not feel should be covered for women:

Guaranteed affordable birth control
Screenings cervical cancer
Screenings for STDs
Screenings for pregnancy related diabetes
Screenings for domestic violence
Breast feeding counseling and supplies

Most of these are preventative services that could save lives... and these are the very services Republicans do not feel are important enough to include in a health plan for women.

I also posted this on tumblr, if that's where you roll most often, and since tumblr does not suck the video is embedded there:

Women should not need a permission slip from government to take care of their own reproductive health.
